This project is taken up in Haldia with the objective of reducing the dropout rate by setting up systems to make course books and reference books available to economically weak but meritorious students. With this objective a Book Bank committee was formed in the selected high schools, the members of which comprised of teachers and students. The major task of the committee was to select the student on the basis of his/her academic performance and the economic status of the family.

The beneficiaries contribute 10% of the total cost of books provided under this project. Students contribute a token amount for the books .The contribution from the students gets deposited in the book bank account of the respective schools. These funds are further used for the maintenance of the books that are returned by the students and also to buy reference books to be used in the library.
